About Voces de la Frontera (VDLF):

 

Voces de la Frontera is a national leader in the movement for immigrant and worker rights and the largest grassroots Latinx membership organization in Wisconsin. Led by low-wage immigrant workers and students, Voces works to protect and expand civil rights and workers’ rights through leadership development, community organizing, and collective empowerment. VDLF has chapters in Milwaukee, Racine, Madison, Green Bay/Fox Cities, Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Waukesha, Walworth County, Kenosha, and West Bend. Voces’ student arm is called Youth Empowered in the Struggle (YES).

 

Scope of work:

 

The goal of the position is to connect environmental justice to the struggle for immigration reform. This will be accomplished by strengthening Y.E.S. community and chapter organizing and to build a climate justice youth activist component to the overall statewide work of Voces and Y.E.S. This component would be injected into the electoral grassroots work as well as messaging for state and national campaigns. The coordinator will work to enhance Chapter work in engaging, mobilizing and registering young people to vote, provide civics education and leadership development and activate students into Y.E.S. and Voces de la Frontera electoral and issue campaigns.

This position is under the direction and supervision of the Youth Organizing Statewide director. Note: This position will include work for both Voces de la Frontera and our 501c4 sister organization Voces de la Frontera Action (VDLFA), as part of our efforts to support pro-immigrant legislation and electoral candidates and raise up the Latinx and immigrant vote.

 

Responsibilities:

Research and create educational materials that will heighten awareness between the relationship of climate change/environmental degradation and the need for immigration reform.
Connect with climate change allies that are natural allies in the immigrant rights movement such as Wisconsin Farmers Union, native organizations and League of Conservation Workers.
Develop and facilitate environmental justice educational workshops on climate change and its relationship to immigration reform
Work with high school and college organizers to Identify, recruit, train, mentor and motivate members to engage and participate in the organization goals, visions and campaign work as well as bring in other leaders
Assist and participate in Y.E.S membership drives
Attend Voces staff meetings and coordinate youth program work with the work of the organization, including intergenerational activities
Advocate for local, statewide national pro immigrant, pro worker policies and environmental policies through an immigrant rights lens
In coordination with communication department under the direction of Yes director send regular communications to all members of upcoming events and update local social media outlets
Ensure civic engagement that include issue-based organizing, elections and accountability for policy changes, particularly those that involve environmental justice
Co-manage YES social media
Maintain communication with youth Organizing Director through weekly work plans and daily reports
Assist in large scale actions and events such as GOTV, May Day, the annual assembly, and the annual Gala
Assist in larger campaigns such as Voceros por el Voto, under our c4 arm: Voces de la Frontera Action
Qualifications:

Experience working for social justice as an organizer and a basic knowledge of community organizing skills (story of self, one on one, power analysis, understanding self-interest, and how to run a meeting)
Experience or background which demonstrates capabilities in organizing, political action, leadership identification and development, and motivating people to act
Can think and act organizationally- prove loyalty to the organization and will not promote other projects while on Voces time
Ability to have a flexible work schedule.
Has respect for and can work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds including immigrants from various countries, and LGBTQ folks
Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
Experience with digital organizing a plus
Experience with immigrant rights organizing preferred
Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills
Must be willing to travel with frequency
Must have reliable vehicle, car insurance and valid driver’s license
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite and other basic computer programs
Benefits:

 

Salary:  50,000.00
