Homeless Narrative Action Campaign a project of the New Venture Fund 501c3

Position Description

The Homeless Narrative and Action Campaign is reshaping the public debate and narrative around homelessness by using cutting edge research, communications and grassroots action.

The Campaign Director will spearhead the project’s campaign and engagement strategy with national and grassroots partners. This includes building, shepherding, and ensuring successful relationships with national and state-based stakeholders and allied organizations who are or should be in the project’s network. This role will be tasked with helping to develop campaign strategies, communications and research programs to guide the work of the project.

The Campaign Director will have established relationships with housing justice advocates, criminal justice reform communities or state-based grassroots organizing networks. Familiarity with issues facing housing justice, the homeless and criminal justice reform will be helpful.

Position Title: Campaign Director
Location: Remote
Reports to: Communications Director/Senior Strategic Advisor Hours per week (average): 40 hrs.

Overtime Status: Exempt Position Summary
The salary range for this position is $75k-$85k plus benefits and will be determined based on experience
and qualifications for the position. Comprehensive benefits package includes employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance, 3% employer match on 401k contributions, pre-tax transportation benefits, and paid holidays, vacation, sick, and volunteer time off.

Responsibilities and Tasks
• Develop and implement external relations strategies towards national partners, state community- based organizations and leaders in close collaboration with HNAC program and communications staff.
• Represent HNAC to organizational partners as needed to achieve campaign objectives and to advance shared communications and narrative shaping goals.
Provide analysis and direction on most effective program for varying types of campaigns.
Act as a point of contact for all collaborative campaigns with state and national partners.
Provide leadership, guidance and strategic direction to state and local campaigns.
• Perform campaign research in support of state and local homeless and housing justice advocacy campaigns.

• Monitor news sources to identify local and statewide homeless and housing justice campaigns.
• Help recruit national, state and local partner organizations to HNAC’s Communications Hub Steering Committee.
• Develop and maintain state and local contacts.
• Organize briefings and reports for internal and external interested stakeholders.
• Manage state partners’ grant program including identifying qualified state partners and managing grant agreements, deliverables and progress reports from grantees).
• Through existing and developed networks, monitor and assess local and statewide homeless and housing justice advocacy campaigns for inclusion in HNAC’s communications program.
Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability
• Minimum of 3-5 years of strategic state-level issue advocacy, civic engagement or communications organizing experience including developing local and or statewide issue campaigns or ballot initiatives.
• Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships and building trust, credibility, and goodwill with a range of stakeholders.
• A demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice issues and understanding of challenges facing immigrant communities, communities of color, and low-income families.
• Significant experience building and sustaining diverse coalitions to advocate for policy change.
• Excellent writing and communication skills, including experience writing and implementing issue campaign plans that include communications and policy implementation strategies.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a broad and diverse set of state partners, allies and others.
Valued and Non-Essential Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability
• A background working on Housing justice and/or police and criminal justice reform is strongly preferred.
