Greenpeace is a global, independent campaigning organization that uses peaceful protest and creative communication to expose global environmental problems and promote solutions that are essential to a green and peaceful future.

With less than a decade left to prevent the worst impacts of the climate crisis, we must take action at the scale science and justice demands. That means saying yes to a Green New Deal; and no to fossil fuels. We can’t sit back and wait for change to happen. It is the time to go on the offense to win the world we need.

That’s why we’re building a grassroots people-powered network to fight for a just, green and peaceable future, where people everywhere have what they need to thrive. Using new technologies and organizing techniques that allow people-powered campaigns to operate at unprecedented scale, we can rise to the challenges we face.

The Distributed Organizing Specialist will help us develop our local organizing infrastructure that will allow volunteers to organize in their own communities, learn core skills, and build relationships that keep them involved in this work for the long haul. This role will play a key role in our shift from a mobilization team to a distributed organizing team.

  • Develop and manage high-level volunteer trainers and coaches who onboard and mentor local organizing leaders and teams.
  • Design and lead high impact volunteer calls and trainings to onboard new volunteers and grow the depth of engagement and leadership of existing volunteers.
  • Develop guides and interactive online trainings that build core organizing skills for our volunteers.
  • Be flexible and responsive in projects — pivot and support programs as needed in order to meet the stated goals.
  • Coach and train other Greenpeace staff on engagement tools and best practices.
  • Work with the Distributed Organizing Manager to create long term strategies to build volunteer power and help win Greenpeace campaigns.
  • Foster a culture of positivity, emotional intelligence and support amongst volunteers at all times.
  • Flexible working hours including evenings required.

Minimum requirements include, but not limited to:

  • 3-5+ years of organizing experience (distributed organizing experience preferred)

  • Highly organized with experience managing complex projects and motivating and managing remote volunteers.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership communication skills.
  • Exceptional writing skills for advocacy and organizing.
  • Demonstrated commitment and skills for building a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive movement.
  • Experience with digital and data tools — Slack, Google Drive, Zoom Webinars, EveryAction or other CRMs, and Control shift or other distributed action tools.
  • Comfort with and enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced campaigning environment, including juggling multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to experiment, take risks and learn from successes and failures.
  • Creative and strategic thinker and problem solver.
  • A driving passion to secure a sustainable, healthy and just future for all.
