Position Available: Organizer or Senior Organizer

THE POSITION:  The Association for Neighborhood & Housing Development (ANHD) – a member-association of 80+ neighborhood-based affordable housing and community development groups and one of NYC’s leading policy/advocacy organizations on housing and economic development- seeks an Organizer or Senior Organizer to coordinate ANHD advocacy campaigns around equitable bank reinvestment and housing development policy. The Organizer or Senior Organizer will work closely with ANHD policy staff, ANHD’s membership, and allied organizations, to develop and run campaigns to win more equitable bank reinvestment policies and to improve city and state housing development policy to better meet the needs of NYC’s low- and moderate-income communities. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Organizer or Senior Organizer will:

· Coordinate ANHD’s Equitable Reinvestment campaigns

  • Working with ANHD’s banking policy expert, ANHD senior staff, and engaged member organizations, develop a clear strategic direction and priorities for ANHD’s Equitable Reinvestment and Responsible Banking work.
  • Coordinate the Equitable Reinvestment Coalition in policy, legislative, and corporate campaigns to advance equity goals in bank investment, access, and impact, particularly with regards to the needs of low and moderate income BIPOC communities, and in line with ANHD’s strategic priorities and goals.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with a wide range of ANHD members, tenant leaders, movement allies, policy-makers, and elected officials.

· Coordinate ANHD’s CDC Advocacy Committee

  •  Work with ANHD’s Housing and Development Senior Manager and ANHD members to  develop and execute strategic campaigns to advance more equitable affordable housing development policy and support non-profit ownership models.
  • Coordinate with other ANHD organizers and policy staff to ensure that CDC Advocacy Committee members engage strategically in ANHD’s housing policy campaigns and in broader coalition and movement efforts.
  • Work with policy staff to effectively advocate with elected officials, agency representatives, and other relevant policy-makers.

· Contribute to ANHD all-staff and Organizing Team work

  • Help build and maintain ANHD’s relationships with allies & partners, and represent ANHD in relevant coalitions and campaigns.
  • Represent ANHD publicly as appropriate, including testifying at hearings, participating in panel discussions, attending press conferences and rallies, etc
  • Participate in ANHD Organizing and Advocacy Team meetings, and collaborate with fellow organizers to ensure strong and consistent campaign work and to build power for ANHD and our members across all our coalitions and committees.
  • Participate in staff meetings, work planning processes, slack channels, etc to ensure internal collaboration.

· Contribute to ANHD’s training and capacity-building work

  • Work with Training Coordinator to ensure that ANHD’s training series meets the capacity-building and strategic campaign needs of the ERC and CDC Advocacy Committee.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3-7 years of organizing and/or advocacy experience in housing, community organizing, labor, or related fields. Some experience with coalition coordination or grass-tops advocacy models is required.
  • Experience with issue-based policy, legislative and/or corporate campaigns.
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills, including the ability to develop and build towards long term campaign goals, and maintain momentum towards strategic priorities while being responsive to new developments and crises.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to independently manage and advance your work while maintaining effective collaboration within a team.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders and partners, including tenant leaders, community organizers, housing developers, policy experts, elected officials, agency staff, etc.
  • Commitment to New York City’s neighborhoods, respect for not-for-profit community-based organizations, and a belief in grassroots organizing as a method of building power to address systemic inequality and injustice.
  • Commitment to racial equity, and comfort applying a racial equity lens to policy and advocacy work as well as to interpersonal professional interactions and relationships.

  • Salary dependent on experience. The range for this position is $50,000 – $70,000.

Note: This position is temporarily remote due to COVID-19. Applicants will need to be available to work from ANHD’s office in Manhattan, NY at the conclusion of ANHD’s work from home status, timing TBD.
