The award named in Susan's memory is given to a student who is ready to work hard and take on new challenges, who has a passion for social justice, and who has solid skills in the field of grassroots organizing. The Susan Blad Seldin Internship award recognizes an outstanding student in the area of field organizing and encourages her/him to consider a career in organizing.
Susan Blad Seldin was a veteran grassroots organizer who worked to elect progressives and promote progressive causes in thirty four-states. Susan was nationally acclaimed for her ability to craft new strategies, see the big picture, and motivate others to find the margin of victory in close races. Susan served as Managing Partner of FieldWorks, the premier grassroots organizing, field development and strategic planning firm she helped found. Her clients were progressive organizations and campaigns throughout the country.
2011 Susan Blad Seldin Award will be presented to Ashley Dinzey
ir communities. Ashley began working with SOUL when she returned to her hometown Chicago for the Midwest Academy Internship. In August 2011, SOUL employed Ashley as a full-time organizer. Utilizing skills obtained from Midwest Academy training, Ashley spends her time developing a resident organization to tackle vacant property issues in Harvey, Illinois, a south suburb of Chicago. Trainings
The Midwest Academy advances movements for progressive social change by teaching strategic, rigorous, results-oriented approach to social action and organization building. The Academy provides training (introductory and advanced) and consulting, equipping organizers, leaders, and their organizations to think and act strategically to win justice for all.
