Susan Blad Seldin Internship Award

This internship award is named in honor of Susan Blad Seldin. The award named in Susan's memory is given to a student who is ready to work hard and take on new challenges, who has a passion for social justice, and who has solid skills in the field of grassroots organizing. The Susan Blad Seldin Internship award recognizes an outstanding student in the area of field organizing and encourages her/him to consider a career in organizing.

Susan Blad Seldin was a veteran grassroots organizer who worked to elect progressives and promote progressive causes in thirty four-states. Susan was nationally acclaimed for her ability to craft new strategies, see the big picture, and motivate others to find the margin of victory in close races. Susan served as Managing Partner of FieldWorks, the premier grassroots organizing, field development and strategic planning firm she helped found. Her clients were progressive organizations and campaigns throughout the country.

2011 Susan Blad Seldin Award will be presented to Ashley Dinzey

A 2011 Midwest Academy Intern, Ashley is currently a community organizer with Southsiders Organized for Unity and Liberation (SOUL), a non-profit grassroots organization that works with church leaders and South Chicago-land residents to win improvements in their communities. Ashley began working with SOUL when she returned to her hometown Chicago for the Midwest Academy Internship. In August 2011, SOUL employed Ashley as a full-time organizer. Before employment with SOUL, Ashley attended Carleton College as an American Studies major on a full-tuition scholarship from the Posse Foundation.  It was during her time at Carleton that she engaged in social justice work through non-profits such as Laura Baker Services Association in Minnesota and Lakota People’s Law Project in South Dakota.
