Spring 2012 Internship Program: Economic Justice Intern

Leadership Center for the Common Good (Common Good) is a national training and support center whose mission it is to help build emerging community organizing efforts and to strengthen existing grassroots organizations.  Our goal, through capacity building, is to strengthen the field of community organizing as a whole and promote broad progressive reform, increased equity, and a government more responsive to the needs of ordinary Americans.  Common Good partners with 17 different state organizations in over 45 cities around the country.  Our partner organizations are rooted in low- and moderate-income communities, communities of color, and immigrant communities.  We support grassroots organizations that engage around a range of issues, such as worker organizing, banking/foreclosures issues, education reform, and civic engagement.
We are looking for smart, energetic and capable interns with a strong commitment to social justice and building progressive power for our Spring 2012 Internship Program.  We recruiting strong applicants for the Economic Justice Internship:

Economic Justice Intern
Responsibilities:
  • Staff the Economic Justice (EJ) program around paid sick days, worker organizing and minimum wage
  • Assist in the design, development and implementation of EJ campaigns
  • Support outreach and communication with Common Good’s grassroots partners around EJ program
  • Track media and communications including twitter, website and Facebook postings around active campaigns
  • Small amount of administrative work
  • Economic Justice Intern will work with and be supervised by the Economic Justice Program Director

Qualifications
  • Current undergraduate or recent B.A./B.S.
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Facility with a range of computer programs including Microsoft Suite
  • Applicant should have some basic campaign, organizing and/or advocacy experience
  • Strong passion and commitment to social justice a must for all intern applicants
