SUMMARY: The Sierra Club is hiring a National Distributed Organizer to build and support permanently organized, resilient and powerful communities and the permanent organizing infrastructure to anchor a long-term vision and strategy that stops the bad, builds the new and shifts power to communities. The distributed organizer will build out the organizing plan and will be responsible for the coordination and effective implementation of the distributed organizing goals within the campaign. They will create organizing strategies that develop volunteer leaders, contribute to campaign wins and build the collective power of our volunteers, communities, and the Sierra Club. Specific geographic and issue-based focus will be determined as needed based on Sierra Club’s programmatic priorities. This position will initially focus on the Sierra Club’s efforts to stop proposed gas infrastructure expansion to block new markets for oil and gas at a time when we must move rapidly to renewable energy instead of locking in more fossil fuel extraction, transport, and use or export.

SALARY, BENEFITS & LOCATION: The salary for this position is $65,500 for Salary Region 1 (example: Washington, DC). If salary region 2 (example: Houston, New Orleans) the salary for this position is $60,000. The final salary is dependent on the actual location of the person in the role. plus excellent benefits that include medical, dental, and vision coverage and a retirement savings 401(k) plan. This is a remote position with a flexible location.

SKILLS: The successful candidate must have experience with distributed organizing; integrating online and on-the-ground organizing; awareness of group identities and shaping along with analysis of the impacts of racism and oppression, power and privilege, and understanding of the legislative and/or administrative policy-making process and politics.
