ROLE:
In conjunction with the senior staff team, the Director of Member Education develops popular education based curriculum and facilitates workshops for Local 73 members to help them gain the skills they need to fight against injustice at work and in society. This is an exciting new position for Local 73. The ideal candidate will have a chance to make their mark and help us build a union with more capacity to carry out our mission.
DUTIES:
- Develops and facilitates popular education-based training programs for Local 73 members. Subjects may include collective bargaining, internal and external organizing, political education subjects such as race and the economy (Race Class Narrative), winning strikes, direct action, and shop floor communications strategies.
- Facilitates “Train the Trainer” workshops with staff and members to help boost the Local’s member education capacity.
- Works closely with outside subject matter experts as required.
- Mentors and develops member organizer cohorts as a group and one-on-one.
- Helps facilitate staff workshops and retreats.
- Writes and presents progress reports to Directors and Officers.
- Participates in campaign planning meetings with Field Directors as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A college degree or equivalent life experience.
- Extensive experience facilitating popular education workshops.
- At least 3 years of organizing experience (Labor, racial justice, community, environmental, student etc. or any combination.)
- Ability and willingness to work irregular and long hours including occasional weekends.
- Personal commitment to the mission and goals of SEIU Local 73.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation skills.
- Occasional (mostly in-state) travel required.
- Bi-lingual English/ Spanish a plus, but not required.
- Must have an automobile with insurance and a valid driver’s license.
The salary range for this position is between $75,000 and $85,000 per year, and the position comes with substantial benefits, including paid holidays and vacations, a combined phone and car allowance of
$7200 per year, excellent fully paid health insurance benefits, and a defined benefit pension plan fully paid by the employer.
