PL is seeking a full-time Economic Justice Organizer (EJO), who will be responsible for Economic Justice campaigns that build long-term power and achieve short-term victories. Specifically, the Georgia Economic Justice Organizer will be leading our Paid Leave campaign on the federal and state level. They will start by building a powerful base of grassroots leaders throughout Georgia. They will provide strategic leadership in the development of an organizational base: building plans, recruiting members and volunteers, and mentoring leaders in support of paid leave. The EJO will recruit, train, and support members in taking on leadership roles in the organization.

The EJO will take a lead role in planning, developing, and carrying out organizing strategy, as well as engaging in creating innovative partnerships with individuals, organizations, elected officials, media, and others. The EJO must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and be able to multitask effectively. This position requires flexible hours with availability most needed in the evenings and on many weekends. The EJO will work primarily in Metro Atlanta counties such as Cobb, Clayton, Dekalb, Fulton & Gwinnett.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create and maintain innovative partnerships with individuals, organizations, elected officials, media, and others.
  • Research on issues assigned
  • Prepare and submit reports of their job activities on as directed by the State Director and/or Organizing Coordinator
  • Coordinate volunteer grassroots advocacy including phone banks, door knocks, house meetings, and other activities
  • Develop and carry out monthly grassroots actions to include but not limited to: bird-dogging, letter writing, press events, letters-to-the editor, rallies and community meetings.
  • Provide input and content for PL social media platforms
  • Participate in and conduct trainings as a part of professional development.
  • Works closely with National Organizing Director on relative campaign efforts
  • Prepare and submit reports of job activities on as directed by the State Director and National Organizing Director
  • Represent PL in a professional manner to the community.

 

Qualifications:

  • One (1) or more years of experience in community organizing and previous experience with political campaigns or field or volunteer organizing
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and foster collaboration and trust in others in the high-pressure campaign environment
  • Proven record of success in setting and achieving goals
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to work independently
  • Cultural competency and ability to communicate effectively with people representing diverse interests, styles, and backgrounds
  • Excellent organizational skills and communication (written and oral) skills in both English and Spanish
  • Excellent cultural competence and the ability to communicate effectively with people representing diverse interests, styles, and backgrounds;
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Google Drive, Gmail, etc), EveryAction, VAN, social media platforms, and Canva is a plus.
  • Ability to be flexible and understanding with changes
  • Reliable transportation
  • Availability to work weekends and evenings

  • Reliable internet, phone, and computer is required to work remotely during COVID-19 work from home periods
  • Previous experience in digital marketing, online organizing, content creation, copy-writing, graphic design, videography, or related fields
  • Demonstrated passion for social justice.
  • Technologically savvy and able to learn how to use new databases, online platforms, etc relatively quickly

Salary
USD 40,000 – USD 50,000
