Position Overview:

The primary vehicle for Partners In Health’s (PIH) movement-building work is “PIH Engage,” a network of volunteer community organizers who form teams across the United States, Mexico, and Peru. The Grassroots Advocacy Coordinator will help form a small team committed to building a movement for the right to health through PIH Engage’s advocacy, fundraising, and community building campaigns in the United States. They will be primarily responsible for training grassroots organizers and advocates in effective advocacy strategies and tactics, as well as communicate campaign-specific information. Initially, the Grassroots Advocacy Coordinator will work closely with the Manager of Grassroots Strategy, a Senior Community Organizer, a small “grasstops” advocacy team, and a volunteer Network Leadership Team.



  • Facilitate group trainings and provide more personalized support to PIH Engage teams and leaders on advocacy goals, civic engagement, education, and training (50%)
  • Work closely with the PIH Advocacy Team, the PIH Engage Network Leadership Team, and external partners to help execute PIH’s grassroots advocacy strategy and response to policy developments and other windows of opportunity for grassroots action. Facilitate bidirectional information flows between grassroots constituents and PIH policy and advocacy leaders, particularly in regard to congressional developments and relationships (20%)
  • Develop and maintain PIH’s digital grassroots advocacy strategy to increase grassroots pressure on elected officials and recruit PIH supporters up a ladder of engagement to get involved with PIH Engage. This digital strategy would involve keeping an up-to-date action center and working across departments to develop regular actions to share with PIH supporters via email and social media, sometimes in a rapid response fashion to urgent policy developments (15%)
  • Help coordinate logistics of the PIH Engage Training Institute, summer constituent congressional meetings, and mentor PIH Engage interns (15%)


  • At least 2 years professional experience or 3 years volunteer involvement in community organizing or grassroots advocacy
  • Experience delivering training or coaching to varying group sizes (one-on-one, small groups, 100+ people)
  • Knowledge of health policy and/or previous involvement with grassroots advocacy campaigns
  • Experience tracking and evaluating large and diverse data sets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, especially via phone, email, and video conferencing
  • Strong computer skills, including fluency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word in particular) and willingness and ability to quickly learn online communication tools (e.g., mass email software and digital advocacy tools)
  • A working knowledge of movement organizing theory, or an interest in learning the theory behind the practice
  • Passion for the movement for health as a human right and interest in social justice strongly desirable.
