Location: Urban unincorporated communities of Alameda County, CA

Status: Regular, 100% FTE,  Exempt

Salary: $70-75K Salary with full benefits

Who We Are

My Eden Voice is a grassroots community organization formed in 2018 to build power and collective action in the urban unincorporated communities of Alameda County. My Eden Voice is fiscally sponsored by In-Advance.

You’ll be joining My Eden Voice as a Senior Organizer, bringing passion and courage to our unique model of building power in a diverse, multi-ethnic/racial community. The position will work in close collaboration with MEV Co-Directors and will play a critical role in shaping the organization.

As the Senior Organizer, you will be primarily responsible for leading new membership engagement that will include street outreach, launching tenants Know-Your-Rights clinics, and leadership trainings. A successful candidate for this position will have proven capacity to engage residents through grassroots leadership development and community organizing practice. You will have experience with membership development and recruitment, leading volunteers in canvassing, and managing programs that serve directly-impacted, working class communities of color.

This position works in collaboration with nonprofit community organizations, resident leaders, Alameda County, and legal tenant service partners committed to advancing equity and building a stronger civic voice in the Eden Area.


Responsibilities of the Senior Organizer

As the Senior Organizer, you will be primarily responsible for support in new membership engagement,   launching the new RISE-Up initiatives, street outreach, and:

  • Convene, recruit and retain neighborhood captains canvassing and outreach team
  • Recruit and develop an ongoing resident  base of membership for My Eden Voice
  • Lead ongoing campaigns of My Eden Voice, including supporting strategic community actions
  • Assist in leadership development activities and leadership training opportunities for My Eden Voice leadership throughout the unincorporated area
  • Train resident leaders in effective outreach, strategic narratives, and community mobilization
  • Contribute to reports and analysis regarding all membership engagement and canvassing activities
  • Lead peer-peer legal health and eviction training, neighborhood-based door-door canvassing, phone canvassing, in-person and virtual workshops for unincorporated area
  • Work with partner legal organization in implementing a resident referral system

Qualifications &  Skill Set

  • Shared life experience and cultural competency with our members
  • Experience with power-building work: understand community organizing as our strategy for change
  • Commitment to language justice: written and spoken fluency in English and Spanish are preferred.
  • 3-5 years relevant experience that can include leading grassroots organizing, volunteer management, field canvassing, organizing campaigns, phone banking activities
  • Experience working with diverse, low-income communities, with people of color, and with the issues affecting low-income urban residents and is aware of trauma-informed practice
  • Experience in working with service providers and collaborative decision making
  • Proven experience with program management with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with attention to detail in a demanding environment
  • Experience and/or familiarity with unincorporated Alameda County is preferred
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • Bachelor’s degree; may substitute four years of equivalent work experience

My Eden Voice advocates for racial and economic justice and intentionally puts equity at the center of our work. We aim to build power, engage residents, and advocate for policy changes that benefit our communities. Our collaborative approach and strategic policy work have been instrumental in elevating the needs of the unincorporated communities of Alameda County and changing the narrative from one of historical disinvestment to one that highlights Alameda County’s municipal responsibility to its residents.

Work Environment

A combination of time spent in a sedentary office environment with time spent on site in unincorporated Alameda County

Travel Requirements

The responsibilities of this position will require occasional travel to off-site locations around the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout unincorporated Alameda County.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, speak and hear.  Requires frequent use of a keyboard, computer monitor and phone.  Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
