Development Director

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Development Director will work closely with the Executive Director on fundraising and administrative efforts, including drafting grant proposals and reporting, system management, online fundraising, and fundraising events. This person must be highly organized and a strong writer. The incoming Development Director will join a growing team and help raise and organize important resources so that our team is able to throw down and win in 2020 and beyond. The Development Director will be managing our current Development Coordinator and will make sure this team runs smoothly. This is a full time position based in our St. Paul office, reporting to the Executive Director.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
GRANT MANAGEMENT, REPORTING, & OTHER COMMUNICATION (40%)
Work closely with the Executive Director and key organizational leadership to help craft compelling grant proposals, narrative reports, and timely updates for a range of foundations and individual donors.
Assist in material development for key organizational documents and external donor communication.
Bottom-line email appeals to our growing list of supporters, ensuring we’re sending regular updates and telling a compelling funding story.
Working with the Executive Director, develop and execute a base-level donor program that includes monthly giving and online fundraising.
FUNDRAISING SYSTEMS & DATABASE (25%)
Maintain, evaluate, and strengthen fundraising systems and processes, including tracking funder communication, grant tracking, and maintaining a clean and accurate fundraising database.
Support and work with the Executive Director to ensure the organization’s revenue tracking is spot on.
SPECIAL PROJECTS & FUNDRAISING EVENTS (10%)
Lead on logistics and scheduling for fundraising events across the state, including small house parties and large-scale events.
RESEARCH, PROSPECTING, & OUTREACH (10%)
Work with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to continually prospect new funders, including individuals and foundations.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated commitment to social justice, anti-oppression, and undoing institutional racism
Have a coaching and learning mentality
A self-starter, comfortable with taking initiative and ownership over projects
Ability to multitask, and know when to ask for help
Creative and flexible, able to think outside the box and react to situations quickly
Willing to work irregular hours when necessary
Interest in developing the leadership of young people in an intentional way
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products
Strong writer with a proven ability to craft different forms of writing, or the willingness to grow in this
Highly organized (seriously), detail oriented, and a relentless focus on results. Proven ability to effectively and independently manage projects.
Ability and desire to take on organizational priorities, unexpected projects, and to adapt as responsibilities and circumstances change.
Strong listening and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships across a diverse range of people.
Has a track record of working with diverse stakeholders, a desire to lift up leadership of young people of color, and a personal understanding and commitment to social justice and equity.

Compensation is $60-65K annually and includes paid vacation and sick time. This is a full-time position with varied evening and weekend requirements. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
