Position Overview:

Our digital mobilization program — reaching more than a million people a week — is the foundation of much of our advocacy and fundraising work. The Digital Mobilization Manager will serve as GP’s in-house technical expert to lead Greenpeace USA’s use of our CRM, email, and broadcast SMS tools across teams and projects to mobilize more people to have impact with our priority campaigns. They will work cross-departmentally and within the online team to maintain best practices, powerful storytelling, and tactics that integrate advocacy, fundraising, and supporter journeys, and create new models of impact and engagement.

The person in this role will operate across compelling projects with global and local focus. They’ll be skilled at developing strategies to connect to different audiences. They’ll work closely with our volunteer, media, fundraising, actions, and project teams to take bold action in the spirit of Greenpeace’s strong brand. They’ll spend the morning developing a long-term plan to grow our supporter base, and then the afternoon writing and building a rapid-response email. This role will manage a team of Digital Strategists.

 

The Senior Mobilization Manager will:

  • Technical Expertise: Serve as Greenpeace USA’s resident technical expert on CRM, email, and broadcast SMS systems and platforms.
  • Keep strategies in line with best practices for email and SMS marketing, advocacy, and fundraising.
  • Technical Expertise: Employ rigorous and consistent email and SMS testing, tracking, analysis, and iteration to make data-informed decisions and report performance out to relevant colleagues / teams.
  • Personal: Develop and execute email and SMS strategy for fundraising and campaign impact. Essentially, mobilize more people to take more actions for our priority campaigns.
  • Personal: Plan, write, and produce engaging email campaigns that motivate our supporters to take action, donate, and volunteer.
  • Personal: Work with the data team to track and benchmark email and SMS performance, creating and evaluating KPI’s for success on both channels.
  • Team: Manage audience segmentation. Analyze email and SMS data, and report to the Online team, cross departmentally, and to other relevant staff.
  • Team: Task manage email and SMS building and testing by staff, both within the Online team and cross organizationally.
  • Responsible for quality control, copyediting, training, coaching, and maintaining narrative flow in outgoing content.
  • Team: Manage Greenpeace USA’s A/B email testing, landing page optimization, and foster a culture of testing and innovation across the team. Ongoing testing, evaluation and process improvement to successfully meet organizational goals and objectives.
  • Team: Serve as a trainer, mentor, and provide other coaching, editing, and professional development assistance to staff in using digital tools and creating compelling content.
  • Management: Manage ~two digital strategists to support them in creating the most compelling digital content that best engages supporters on our key campaign goals; support staffs’ professional development; guide staff in prioritizing day-to-day work; guide and support staff in meeting quarterly and annual online team goals.
  • Cross departmental: Lead the online team’s strategy on supporter journey and systems, automation, and integrate cross departmental priorities, like fundraising and volunteer recruitment, into these journeys.
  • Cross Departmental: Coordinate and support email and SMS content strategy across the organization for all users of these channels. Act as a key leader for the Online team’s cross departmental coordination with the Development team and outside consultants on email and SMS fundraising as a member of the Digital Marketing Team.
  • Cross Departmental: Managing Email and SMS output calendars and provide weekly insightful reports on Email and SMS performance.
  • Cross Departmental: Lead digital and cross-organizational projects on major pushes, including campaign pushes and advocacy integration into narrative arcs for major moments like Earth Day, EOY, or Oceans Month.
  • Cross Departmental: Serving as the online point person for specific campaigns as needed.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Expertise in communicating and managing conversations about social and racial justice issues.
  • 6-8 years experience in entry level fundraising, small dollar fundraising, and monthly giving, with a proven online fundraising track record.
  • 6-8 years of email writing and editing experience with a strong attention to detail.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in digital strategy, such as online campaigning, organizing, or marketing – including email writing and list building, database management and segmentation, and online fundraising.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in nonprofit, advocacy, or political work preferred, but we are excited to welcome digital experts from other sectors and industries as well.
  • Technical expertise in managing a fundraising and advocacy CRM, EveryAction preferred, but Nationbuilder, Salesforce, Blue State Digital, Salsa, etc, are also relevant.
  • A strong track record of leadership in strategy development and digital content planning and creation in cross departmental teams.
  • Deep experience creating digital strategies that result in winning major campaign victories and raising money.
  • Strong leadership skills, with demonstrated success in project managing cross-functional teams in a campaigning or fundraising environment and/or leading large projects or teams.
  • Ability to project manage major pushes for coordinated fundraising cycles (eg, End of Year campaigns, Earth Day campaigns, etc).
  • Training, coaching, and professional development expertise in assisting junior level content creators to become experts at writing and developing content for advocacy and fundraising.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to A/B testing, innovation, and data analysis.
  • Ability to inspire and advise peers and senior colleagues on multiple teams, set and review goals, assess risks and outcomes, and analyze data.
  • Excellent judgement regarding strategic and timely communications reaching millions of supporters.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, or holidays as needed to meet campaign moments.
  • Previous management experience and commitment to coaching and developing supervisors and colleagues.
  • Strong equity analysis and demonstrated understanding of, commitment to, and prioritization of racial justice, social justice, and accessibility, as well as experience working effectively with different constituencies.
  • Self-motivated—we are a largely remote team, and while you will interact with your colleagues constantly, you will be driving your own workflow and output. Excellent personal organization and time management skills are key.
