About Florida for All: 

Individual organizations continue to play an essential role as the fundamental building blocks of the Florida racial and economic justice ecosystem. In particular, individual organizations exist to build a deep base in key constituencies and geographies; develop and run organizing, advocacy and political campaigns; and work to shift the dominant narrative in the state. These organizations also come together in different ways to increase their capacity and impact. Below is an overview of the purpose, activities, governance and structure of the two main existing collaborative vehicles: Statewide Alignment Group and Florida for All. Given the historical structural relationships, also included is initial thinking about the new entity that will arise from the merger between New Florida Majority and Organize Florida so we can think about the nature of the relationship that makes most sense heading into 2021.

About the Position: 

The State Director provides leadership and support to the Executive Directors of the SWAG coalition including convening SWAG meetings, calls, and centering helping to facilitate alignment amongst SWAG EDs. Leads the program to accomplish SWAG goals and direction.  The State Director manages the Florida for All staff, directs the planning and execution of SWAG priority projects and coordinates the joint program/work of SWAG organizations, oversees the development of the SWAG budget, coordinates the administration of SWAG PACs and other political funds.  He / She represents SWAG to various coalitions and allies as assigned by SWAG EDs and manages the work of assigned Florida for All staff.

Direction and Decision Making:

The Florida for All State Director reports directly to and is accountable to the SWAG Executive Directors and is responsible for communicating regularly with all SWAG Executive Directors. This position will be managed day-to-day by one SWAG ED as assigned by the SWAG Executive Directors.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Six or more years of organizing and political experience with one or more of the following types of organizations: community organizations, progressive issue advocacy organizations, political campaigns, labor unions, and progressive elected officials
  • Ability to lead and manage staff leading in an often demanding, campaign-style environment
  • Ability to manage multiple lines of accountability simultaneously
  • Experience in and knowledge of political (C3 & C4), issue and legislative campaigns
  • Knowledge and experience in use of polling, research, targeting, direct mail, and opposition research
  • Knowledge and experience working with voter files, VAN and voter targeting
  • Commitment to activist and leadership development
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Florida for All.
  • Experience in successfully leading and implementing legislative, issues, political organizational programs

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Create processes that facilitate strategic alignment and continued trust building amongst SWAG EDs
  • When assigned, design and execute political field campaigns or work with SWAG organizations to execute political (electoral, issues, legislative) field campaigns
  • Work with Development Manager to assure funding raising strategies are executed to help fulfill budgets of individual organizations and joint Florida for All program
  • Work with the Local Theory of Change Coordinator to assure county level alignment around our stated movement goals
  • Work with Path to Power Coordinator to execute leadership development programs and maintain consistent development opportunities throughout the political work
  • Work with the Legislative Coordinator to execute legislative/lobby work
  • Develop coalitions and joint work with SWAG organizations, political allies, and partners
  • In coordination with SWAG EDs, represent the Florida for All  at meetings with elected officials, allies, and other partners, as directed
  • Oversee the development of annual and campaign budget plans
    Supervise all Florida for All accounting, financial record keeping, reporting, and compliance
  • Oversee the hiring, supervision, and development of staff
  • Performing all other tasks and duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

The position is based out of South Florida. Work in the field and travel is required.

Salary Range:

The position offers a competitive salary and benefit package. Specific salary will be commensurate with experience.
