Website Kairos Fellowship and Kairos Action

Kairos Fellowship and, our 501(c)4 arm, Kairos Action work toward building a society where tech works for all of us. To do this, our campaigns team focuses on the intersection of technology, democracy, and racial justice. We have launched Tech Is Not Neutral as an umbrella campaign that has so far focused on content moderation problems on the Nextdoor app, Facebook’s undermining of the election, and the way tech companies continue to aid police despite claiming that Black Lives Matter.
This has all been in just our first year of campaigning. And we’re looking for a talented Director of Campaigns to continue to lead this growing team toward greater success.
The Director of Campaigns understands that building power requires creativity, strategy, strong relationships, and a whole lot of elbow grease. The Director of Campaigns is a self-motivated, detail-oriented, creative strategist, and strong project manager who has a compassionate yet results driven approach to team management. The Director of Campaigns will lead a team of 3-5 campaigners and consultants to continue developing Kairos’ burgeoning tech accountability and governance work.

General Duties:

    • Support and lead a team in crafting strong digital campaigns, including rapid response and long-term.
    • Write and create compelling, well-sourced content to organize members and constituents to take action.
    • Supervise a team of 3-5 staff Campaign Managers and consultants on our core issue areas around technology: surveillance, law enforcement use of technology, antitrust, and tackling disinformation through content moderation.
    • Continue to refine our already-built digital infrastructure by adding in new tools and improving existing ones.
    • Help manage, coach, and grow the skillsets of Digital Campaign Managers.
    • Support Campaign Managers to assess organizations’ capacity for digital campaigning work, and support them in filling the gaps.
    • Participate in the culture of and contribute to the broader Kairos team spirit, ethos, and organizational strategy, including quarterly and yearly planning. Participate and contribute as a senior leader of the organization.

Required skills and experience:

    • A movement builder with deep ties to communities of color, and committed for the long-term to build winning power for marginalized communities.
    • An experienced manager with a proven track record of developing junior staff to become excellent strategists and campaigners.
    • An exceptional listener; a strategic, collaborative, and imaginative problem-solver.
    • Direct and collaboration-oriented communicator, able to manage group dynamics in order to move discussions toward decisions and action.
    • Self-reflective, able to receive and implement feedback, self-motivated, disciplined, and rigorous.
    • 5-7 years of digital campaigning experience.
    • Experience and proficiencies with digital tools to be able to organize both broadly and deeply.
    • Impeccable personal boundaries.
    • Demonstrated ability to work remotely and ability to work in a fast paced environment with humility, grace, and flexibility.
    • Skilled at managing multiple projects simultaneously; able to remain poised and effective while juggling competing priorities under pressure.
