Citywide Community Organizer

Reports to: Executive Director


JOB SUMMARY: ASE is seeking a Citywide Community Organizer to help ASE connect local campaigns to citywide efforts on equitable development. Work would include coordinating and expanding our Citywide Equitable Development Round Table, participation in the City’s planning process, and working with the ASE organizer on local developments. We are looking for someone committed to social justice and fighting for racial equity.


ASE has been working on local campaigns to: 1) make sure local developments benefits local residents, and 2) to combat environmental racism, and the concentration of toxic developments on the southeast side. Residents have prioritized training and jobs, affordable housing, green infrastructure & sustainability, and quality of life, and a real commitment to a community-based decision-making process in southeast Chicago. We recognize that the southeast side is not alone in these efforts. The Citywide Community Organizer would coordinate with other organizations and networks who are fighting similar issues across the City of Chicago, and ensure a community voice in the upcoming City planning process.



●     Perform outreach to organizations/networks working on development-related campaigns.

●     Staff meetings with the Equitable Development Round Table

●     Participate in We Will Chicago strategy meetings and process

●     Coordinate with CBA organizer to connect local campaigns with Citywide efforts, and provide support with local development efforts, as needed.

●     Coordinate meetings with stakeholders and decision-makers

●     Other tasks and duties reasonably related to the job responsibilities

●     Prepare written reports, meeting summaries, related written materials as they pertain to the work



●     HS Diploma. Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.

●     Previous experience in community/union organizing and/or coalition building. Relationships with different organizing groups or networks a plus.

●     Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to build relationships with and engage a variety of community members, organizing groups, and potential allies.

●     Ability to work independently and as a team.

●     Willingness to perform outreach, both to individuals and to groups, and speak in front of groups.

●     Share our commitment to social, racial, and economic justice, and increasing community leadership and involvement in local issues

●     Track record of working with diverse populations, especially African Americans and Latinos.

●     Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.

●     Bilingual (English/ Spanish) desirable.

●     Ability to work some evening and weekend hours, when needed.

●     Cell phone and automobile (with valid U.S. driver’s license and auto insurance)

●     Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Docs


This position is available immediately.
